Bison

I created a life-sized bison out of recycled tires and stainless steel. I first TIG welded the stainless steel horns using thin steel rods. Each horn weights over 10 lbs and took a full week to fabricate. I then used an existing polyurethane foam form to use as my inner structure. I reshaped the head, back and tail, then took it into fiberglassing to give it rigidity to withstand the elements. I then used over 10,000 Stainless steel staples and screws to secure over 200 recycled tires to the form. Once complete, I power washed all the tires and shined them to look new. This sculpture was commissioned by the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, WI and will be displayed outside their Bison Exhibit.
