Grizzly Bear
I carved a grizzly bear out of black walnut burl and 9 gallons of epoxy resin. The Fish is carved from Maple Burl. The Bear measures 28” long by 18” tall and 12” wide and weighs roughly 60 pounds. I first cut the walnut burl down to size, prepped it for an epoxy pour, then coated it in tabletop resin to prevent air bubbles from forming. I then spent over a week doing the epoxy pour. Once cured, I used a chainsaw and other power tools to carve the shape of the bear, before hand sanding everything to 5000 grit. The pedestal consists of a natural grey stone with a walnut riser.
